One of the most disorienting bugs in Project Lunky: you skip the intro cutscene, and suddenly you're falling through an endless void beneath the map. Here's exactly why it happens and how to fix it.
Why You're Falling Out of the Map
The bug is triggered by skipping the Mospital™ intro cutscene. During the cutscene, Lixian's character shoves you into the lab — this animation also sets your spawn coordinates. When you skip it, the spawn position defaults to (0, 0, 0), which is below the floor geometry.
You'll see unfinished geometry, floating textures, and eventually just an empty void. Some players have reported seeing debug text and placeholder objects in the void — remnants of Lixian's development process.
How to Fix It
If You're Currently Stuck in the Void
Press Escape → select Restart Run. This resets your position to the correct spawn point. Your coin progress for this run will be lost, but it's the only way out.
Prevention: Don't Skip the First Cutscene
On your first playthrough (or any new run), let the Mospital™ intro cutscene play fully. It's only about 15 seconds. After your first complete playthrough, the skip seems to work correctly on subsequent runs for most players.
If It Keeps Happening
Delete your save file and start fresh. The save file location is: %AppData%/LixianGames/ProjectLunky/save.dat. This resets all progress but fixes persistent spawn issues.
What's in the Void?
Some players have intentionally triggered this bug to explore the out-of-bounds area. Findings include:
- Floating room geometry from levels that haven't loaded yet
- A single untextured cube far below the map (possibly a development marker)
- Debug text reading "LIXIAN WAS HERE" — likely a developer Easter egg
- The void eventually loops — after falling for ~60 seconds, you respawn at the void's starting point
Whether the "LIXIAN WAS HERE" text is an intentional Easter egg or leftover debug info is debated. Given Lixian's history of hiding messages, it's likely intentional.
